New alcohol based fuels
Their impact on electrostatic risk
The new alcohol based fuel E50 – E100 (ethanol and gasoline mixture) may be easier to ignite as a result of their wider flammable range and ignition properties. The conductivity of such fuels is, however, several orders of magnitude higher than traditional fuels. This high conductivity of the fuel will prevent any static build up in the piping, whether in a plastic or metal pipe, because the fuel dissipates itself through its own conductivity.
Therefore the use of these renewable energy fuels does not pose any additional electrostatic hazards.
